Pelargonium gibbosum (Gouty Pelargonium)-  Here is one fantastic succulent pelargonium that every collector should have in their collection!  Produces a gorgeous, thick mound approx. 1-2 feet high by 3-4 feet wide.  Leaves are a beautiful, blue-green, deeply notched, and wavy, giving the plant a "Billowy" appearance.  Newly unfurling leaves look almost feather like.  The name "gouty pelargonium" comes from the long stem segments which have very swolen joints.  In addition to the plant itself being beautiful, the flowers are fantastic as well.  They are among the most yellow of the genus pelargonium.  I would describe them as a chartreuse-sulfur yellow, they are produced in abundance and are unbelievably fragrant at night.  They perfume the air like Jasmine.   The scent is EXACTLY (in my opinion) like the orange marshmallow Circus Peanuts candy!  Quite the attention getter at an evening dinner party.  The plant will also develope a great caudiciform base over time.

Normally summer dormant but will still look fairly good if given a little extra water in the summer.  In the fall, when the weather cools down, look out!  That's when they kick in and go crazy.  They get their fullest and most beautiful in the ground or a large pot where they can really spread their roots.

They prefer full sun in mild climates to part shade and moderate to regular moisture during their growing time in the fall.

They do great in rich but really well drained soil with some sand.

Hardy to at least 25 degrees with cover.
