This fantastic winter-blooming bulb is native to South Africa.  In Fall (normally Nov-Dec.) active growth begins and the first set of green leaves, with lovely maroon spots are produced. Very soon afterwards, 4-8 inch flower stalks arrive.  The tubular, pendulous flowers are a brilliant mix of orange, yellow and green.  The tips of the petals mature to a dark chocolate-maroon.  An absolute showstopper!  After the flowers fade, the blooming crowns of the plant will  begin to die back.  As this happens, the plant will beging to produce small, grassy shoots from the bulbils at the base of the parent bulbs.  These will continue to grow for the winter and will produce a larger colony of blooming sized bulbs, the following winter. As spring, and warmer temperatures arrive, the plant will go dormant.  The bulbs like to be kept dry during the dormant period.  When fall arrives with cooler temperatures, the bulbs will start growing and put on a great display.
